I'm diabetic. My diabetes is under control, but my blood pressure seems kind of high?
I'm taking my meds for the blood pressure and it seems to be high or borderline. Would I have to limit on my intake on the sodium. How can I calculate the amount I can consume per day, w/o raising my blood sugar. thank you.
Answer
It's not too hard to limit the sodium without interfering with your diabetes. Start by limiting table salt, and substituting things like Mrs Dash (salt substitute). Avoid canned foods, they are all high in sodium, use fresh or frozen foods instead. Processed meats such as bologna, hot dogs, sausages, bacon, ham are all high in sodium, so substitute chicken or fish when possible. And watch out for sodas, a lot of the colas (the dark ones) have sodium.
Start out here, increase your intake of water, and you will be well on your way to a good reduced-sodium diet. If 2 weeks of this does not help lower your BP, talk to your physician about it.

To those that wear an insulin pump. Do you still have to take finger prick/blood samples? If so, if you?
still have to stick yourself, why not just take the extra minute or so and give yourself an injecton? What actual advantage is there in the pump? I'm considering using a pump and would like some info. Thanks.
Answer
yes you still have to check your sugar levels. the pump delivers a constant small dose of insulin to keep your blood sugar constant. the pump is designed for people that are insulin dependent and have tried unsuccessfully to control their diabetes with injections and pills. it's suppost to stop the extreme highs and lows created by uncontrolled sugar levels and insulin injections. however, just because you have a pump doesnt mean you wont ever need another injection… blood sugar levels can still get as high as before the pump and you'll need a bolus of insulin. the good news is most pumps have a setting that you control to deliver the bolus dose (just like you would with an injection) without having to stick yourself again

How can I help my boyfriend manage his diabetes?
My boyfriend has Type I Diabetes and he had renal failure earlier this year but fought through it, but it seems like his sugar is always off. It is either way too high or way too low, and I don't really know if this is normal for it to fluctuate that much during 24 hours. I want to be helpful and keep him healthy, but I just don't know what to do.
Answer
i completly understand your frustration. My dad has type one diabetes, and NOTHING seems to make him care about his health.
Keep encouraging him as much as possible. Hopefully he will one day understand what you are doing is for his benefit.
Continue to eat healthy together (very limited high calorie, sugary crap), and do low impact excersises just about once a day.
What are my chances / diabetes?
My mom was type 1 and died when I was 16, she was 34. I am now 37….I had gestational diabetes with my 2nd child 2years ago…controlled with diet only. My recent fasting was 99 and my A1C was 5.4…I had alot of scary situations as a child with my mom, (who didnt take care of herself good) but diabetes almost scares me now from all of it with her……So what are my chances with readings like I have???
I do eat low carb/sugar free.
Answer
Your values are absolutely perfect now. However, considering your family's history, have the A1C done every 6 months. If you notice a change in your behavior, like excessive thirst, urination, cravings for sweets, these symptoms can be an early indication of a possible problem with your glucose metabolism. Continue with a diet with proteins and veggies, low starch (carbohydrates) and exercise regularly.
Which glucose testing machine do you recommend?
I am helping my 22 year old daughter do some research on glucose testing machines. Today she was diagnosed with glucose intolerance (fasting glucose level 118). She is also waiting for the results from a blood test for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS). Her doctor is 99% sure the test will come back positive for PCOS based on other symptoms she is experiencing. My daughter needs to get a glucose testing machine. We know there are several on the market and we would like to know people's real experiences with different makes and models. Ease of use, portablility, and as less pain as possible are of particular interest to my daughter. If you are using a glucose testing machine we would welcome your opinions and any advice you can pass on. Thank you for serious answers on this serious subject.
Answer
You need to be aware of how very expensive the test strips are for the top market machines. I use the Target Easypro because the strips are only $21 for fifty, half of what the others cost. This makes me free to test more often and control my diabetes. Granted they don't have all the bells and whistles the other meters do. But the companies that give away all those fancy meters do it because they are trapping you into spending a ton of money on their meters, they are profiting big time on your disease.
Need a natural remedie for type 2 diabetes!!?
Mornings my sugar level is 200+. I take Cinnamon 1000mg in morning and 1000mgs at night. Supposed to help process sugar. Went on Atkins plan for 3 weeks and sugar level came down to normal, but cholesterol soared. Can somebody me?
Answer
While there is no "remedy" for type 2, there's plenty of help out there. Atkins is not it. Atkins' low carb concept is a good one for diabetics, in theory, due to the low carb idea, but in practice, it fails to address the underlying issue of fat. If one were to study those who have type two diabetes, it wouldn't take long for them to realize that fat is what causes type two diabetes. Here's more on that:
http://www.sciencentral.com/articles/vie…
What helps type twos the most is lowering the insulin resistance. The only way to do that is to reduce your fat consumption. The Atkins diet (especially dairy products) is a horrible diet for that. Also, you need to address the carbohydrate issue. Refined carbs (bread, pasta, and the like) must be limited. The only viable answer to solving the insulin resistance issue is to go an a low carb AND low fat diet…. i.e. mostly raw vegetable diet. By doing that, you reduce your fat consumption, your refined carb consumption, and maximize your nutrient consumption. This all adds up to lowering your blood glucose while maximizing your nutrition and giving your body what it needs in order to make the best use out of the foods you give it.
Does my problem of e.d. have to do with my sugar level iam diabeticand i dont get it as hard as i used too?
Answer
Welcome to the club. The best thing you can do is control your blood glucose as well as you possibly can. Plenty of exercise is good. The more sweat, the better. When I get out and work my you know what off, I feel like a young man again. I'm not a big fan of drugs… especially for recreation. That's why you'll never see me recommending Viagra, Levitra, or Cialis. If diet and exercise don't get you where you want to go, try these instead:
Enzyte ingredients:
horny goat weed extract (Epimedium sagittatum)(10% flavonoids as icariin) (whole plant)
L-arginine HCl
Ginkgo biloba leaf 6:1 extract
saw palmetto berry
Tribulus terrestris extract (10% saponins) (stem and fruit)
Panax ginseng root extract (4% ginsenosides)
vegetable cellulose
Swedish flower pollen extract
Avena sativa (aerial parts)
zinc gluconate
maca root
niacin
zinc citrate
zinc oxide
copper oxide
muira puama stem 4:1 extract
copper gluconate
octacosanol
