Work From Home Medical Billing

Thursday, August 27th, 2009

Where can I find a work from home medical billing or coding job?

I'm a certified coder and have worked as a biller and coder for a couple of years. I want to earn some extra money on the side by doing this work at home, but I can't find any telecommuting jobs. Any ideas? I'm also a part time student, and I could definitely use the extra money for school expenses.

Answer

You have a number of options-and med billing from home is a great way to go. You can hook up with a billing company, strart your own, completely freelance (if you know any drs. with smaller offices who would be interested) or try the temp agencies. There are a number of them that specialize in medical billing. Check your yellow pages for your local ones (yeah, I know, way old school) or do a Google search . Good luck.

Work at Home Medical Billing and Coding?

I am currently enrolled in an online college with a focus on medical billing and coding. I was wondering if anyone when of LEGITIMATE companies that hire to work from home with medical billing and coding. I am not interested in the companies that try to get you started and want to sell you software and so forth. I just want to know if anyone personally knows of a company who hires for this. Thanks, Joy

Answer

Hi Joy! Yes, there are legitimate companies that hire people to do medical billing and coding from home. To find these companies and jobs, first go to job posting sites, such as HotJobs or Monster. Then, search through the medical billing and coding jobs using the keyword "telecommuting"

I also have a book that lists companies that hire for this kind of job. I don't know the title off the top of my head, but if you're interested, let me know and I'll look for it.

What medical billing schools are the best? Can I work from home?

Answer

Someone been telling me that the college that does the advertisement are doing nothing but hype.

Honestly, one of them pay 1 cent on each line. Not worth it.

How can I do medical billing and coding from home?

I would like to know if there is anyone out there that does medical billing and coding from home that doesn't require a degree. If anyone knows legitimate places where I can do this please respond.

Answer

Online medical billing and coding schools are very suspect when it comes to training on the latest medical/billing software since most medical centers have very customized medical software which is not normally shared with trade schools and the like. In the real world of medical billing and coding, training occurs on-the-job. We therefore do not recommend that you subscribe to any online school for medical billing and coding and concentrate on entering a medical internship program at your local medical facility/center for medical billing/coding.

On another subject: the major bulk of medical billing/coding work in the U.S. has been greatly curtailed by state privacy laws as it pertains to medical records and patient confidentiality. The vast majority of medical records are kept in recordkeeping departments within medical centers and any billing/coding work is done "in-house," not "outsourced." So, beware of any offers which promote online at home medical billing/coding work–there are scammers out there.

Good luck!

Does anyone know how to get a at-home medical billing career? And do they really make money?

I'm interested in working at home as a medical biller. But I dont know where to start. I want to know if they make good money and if real doctors will be able to hire me. Do I cold-call them? Or what? Help!

Work at Home ideas…?

Does ANYONE out there know of any GOOD legit at home businesses??? I want to do like stuffing and mailing envelopes or putting things together and mailing back out or something along that line. I do not have very much money to invest, Which, hello, is why I need to work at home. My daughter had a liver transplant and is severley immunosuppressed so she cannot go to daycare, and my husband works, but with a teenager as well and gas prices going up we really need some extra income!!! PLEASE HELP!!!!

Answer

You could try Googling for "Web answering service" or try Craigslist and look for telecommuting jobs. You might get lucky with something in the local paper as well, or a legal transcription firm in your area if you're a great typist or proofreader.

Any jobs that have you assemble products at home are illegitimate. You buy the raw materials for a pretty penny from your "employer" then never get paid for the product because it doesn't meet their standards. Envelope stuffing is a pyramid scheme whereby you place an ad in the paper telling people to send you a few dollars for information. Then you stuff an envelope and mail them a letter telling them to do to others what you've just done to them. As a printer who does a fair amount of bindery work, I can tell you that any firm without batch processing equipment just hires temps locally.

Sorry to be a wet blanket; there's just so much crap out there and it sounds like you have enough on your plate as it is.

Good luck.

Send out your resume to companies that hire in your profession. In your cover letter include that you require to spend the majority of the time telecommuting from your home office.

You will not find a real job looking for "work at home".

I want to work from home on my pc any ideas?

Answer

The work from home jobs that aren't scams actually require work on your part - and if you're in need of money soon then you're likely to be sorely disappointed in any of those as well. Most of the legit opportunities out there take time to build - so if someone makes an outrageous claim of income it probably isn't true ( and those that are true sure didn't make that kind of money when they first began ).

http://working-from-home-ireland.blogspo…

Time & effort required - but do your own research on what is best for you, don't take the advice of myself and others as gospel from this type of forum.

http://www.working-from-home-jobs.com/

I have other ideas that may help - one of them is an online opportunity but another is one that will require a little effort to market yourself - try some data entry for local businesses, many of them don't have the time to do it in-house and will gladly pay someone else to do it. Professionals are a good place to start, lawyers, doctors, chiropractors, etc - they need their "in-house" folks doing other things rather than busy work.

Looking for data entry or billing or customer service, work from home. I am very computer literate…very familiar with many programs. NO SCAMS PLEASE!! I am very cautious…just looking for something that a bored housewife can do to earn some $$$$$ PLEASE HELP if anyone has any ideas.

Answer

Hi! You should never pay anyone to have a JOB from home. If someone is offering employment and asking for money then it is a scam. However, a HOME BUSINESS is different. If you and I decided to open up our own coffee shop then there would be start up costs right? It's the same for home businesses. You work for yourself and the income potential is unlimited. Not to mention the great people you will meet and the fun you will have along the way. You have to be sure you choose something you are passionate about. You can market makeup, candles, health products, etc. I chose to help people save money on their health care. There are many many people that need medical, vision, or dental benefits. 56 million Americans do not have coverage. Even more need a dental plan.

How can a Virtual Assistant/Secretary market their services to clients?

I am a Virtual Assistant/Secretary and I need advice on how I can build my list of clients. I am looking for a way to help individuals and companies realize the benefits of hiring a Virtual Assistant/Secretary over and in-office Assistant.

Answer

I would send out a snail mail flyer to small businesses in your area. Maybe ad a coupon, "10 hours for the price of 5".

I am considering the virtual assistant business, can it work if I live in Italy?

I recntly moved to Italy, got married and became a mom, I just found out about the business of virtual assistant. can it work uf I am overseas? and how do get started?

Answer

First consider your skills and how organized you are. Virtual assistants work from around the globe because their clients require their skills, not their presence in an office setting. Your skills, the time you have to work and organization will be the keys to succeeding.

Try the links below to find out more about the field and what it takes to make it with a VA business.

The last link is from an article in Entrepreneur about starting a business as a VA. It's from 2004 but will give you an idea of what's involved.

How do I become a Virtual Assistant?

Does anyone know how I could get started as a Virtual Assistant? I'm interested in starting off slow, and am in no rush to do this, but I would love to get started in this career path so by the time I have children (in about 2-3 years) I can possible work from home and do what I'm great at.

I excel at almost all and any administrative tasks, and have been in the field for almost 7 years. I support a line of managers currently and do almost every type of project and admin task you could think of, so I have a lot of experience.

Basically, I would like to know if there is a way to get on board with this type of job and not have to pay $3K for some 'certificate' since I already have the experience to back it up.

Ideas/Feedback/advice? Thanks!

Answer

I am also in the same field, just starting out also. I suggest just pick a couple of the administrative tasks you do really well and start with that., you can always add more services as your business grows. If your business does not have the necessary financial means at the moment, you can always get certified when it does at a later time. I did not get certified either since I do have 10 yrs. admin. experience myself.

Get yourself a website, even if it's just a simple one, get some business cards and NETWORK, NETWORK, NETWORK!! Maybe send some information to some local offices or some non-profit organizations, churches or you can also join your local chamber of commerce. I also suggest you get this book, Virtual Assistant the Series, by Dianna Ennen and Kelly Poelker. This book has helped me a lot in putting this business together step by step, gives you great information on what you are going to need and ideas on what services Virtual Assistants are offering.

I hope this helps, good luck.

How much does it cost to start a Virtual Assistant Business?

I am looking into starting a Virtual Assistant business from my own since I have a baby on the way and would like to be able to stay home to raise him or her. My question(s) are….How much does is cost to start a VA Business? What certain comp programs will I need?

Answer

You will need to equip a home office with all the things found in a typical office - computer, business phone with answering maching, fax machine, copier, etc.
You will also need to purchase the software for the computer such as MS Office Professional, bookkeeping software such as Peachtree or Quickbooks.
You will also need office supplies like ink, paper, etc.
Check online at OfficeMax or Staples for estimates of cost. I would check with Dell.com for computer costs as they sometimes include software or printers in their value bundles.
Good luck with your family and business.

How much would you pay for someone to be your virtual assistant?

You have to pay them 40 hours upfront. So how much would you pay to have a virtual assistant?

Answer

Over-the-internet-pay is tricky. Don't pay them, but instead do some stuff for them in return. Make sure their getting something out of it.

I want to submit a press release for my virtual assistant small business; what are some good sources?

I've already posted a press release to my local newspapers and have gotten contact information for the larger newspapers like the Washington Post, New York Times and Baltimore Sun. I am looking for things like trade magazines and community publications that other small business and home-based business owners read, since they are my target market. Any help is greatly apprecated.

Answer

Depending on your situation and budget, you could be better off using one of the services below. I have no affiliation or attachment to any of them.

Most if not all news agencies, media, and associated writes subscribe to Newswire type services. They rarely use Press Releases sent to them by individuals. There are too many reasons to cite here for their behavior, but it is the norm.

Individual contact and getting your release picked up is almost impossible unless you are an exceptional person pushing an exceptional cause or product

The time cost required to get all the media is enormous compared to paying one of these services $200 US $ and getting them to post it 'on the wire' where editors, reporters and other writers can pick it up. They all subscribe to the Newswire.

Getting free publicity by using Press Releases is recommended by a myriad of books in marketing, hence the press is contacted by countless others doing the same. To get the attention, you can use what celebrity agents do, they create something that is news worthy.

A media person will pick up your 'story', if you offer them something they can write or speak about. Look carefully and see what you can do to help them.

The sources of media contacts at the library are usually out-of-date, so look at the current publication of the outlet you want and it should have the contact info in one of the section. Usually this information is part of the editorial page.

Good Luck
